The team captain was Luther Frentz and the leading scorer was Russell Sonner. The A’s split the season and split the games with the YMCA and Wooster. However the first major rivalry controversy occurred with Wooster’s Coach Weygandt over the referee Paul “Spitz” Ganyard of the Ashland YMCA. Ganyard called just two fouls in a very rugged first half. Weygandt took over as the ref in the 2nd half and called 11 fouls on Ashland and nearly as many on his team. In the second contest that season Wooster won in a blowout. When Ashland won 6-0 in Football the next fall, Weygandt’s behavior again over officials caused Ashland to not schedule Wooster for several seasons.
