Sam Marchio’s team was one of the top fives in AHS history winning the Cardinal Conference and the Sectional tourney. His quintet was made up four seniors: Tim Stark (379 pts), Bruce Stefan (271 pts), Ron Power (240 pts), Joel McCuen (179 pts), and sophomore Roosevelt Robinson (244 pts). Jim Minnich, senior utility man, was the hero of perhaps the greatest game. The three-overtime and eight-point deficit comeback in 47 seconds to defeat of the Tygers in the Sectional finals is one of the all-time sweetest victories. It ended Mansfield’s tournament streak of five wins in a row against the Arrows. The comeback in the New Philly game and the upset of State finalist Elyria, also, ranked as high points of the 19-win season.
