It was the final season for the beloved head coach Sam Marchio, who was diagnosed with cancer. He had another fine team sharing the Cardinal Conference with Coshocton and winning the Sectional tournament at the new AU gym. It was the year of the memorable Madison-stall, which ended in a 39-9 Arrow win. Bill Newkirk was named unanimous MVP for the league and third-team All-Ohio. He had 349 points and 257 rebounds. Mark Humrichouser with 220 points and Rod Repschlaeger with 203 points were, also, named to the All-CC teams 2nd team and honorable mention respectively. Joe Shideler (156 pts and 139 rebounds) and Jerry Elson 107 pts) were the other starters, who helped string together a 13-game win streak until Lima Senior stopped them in the District. |
